Foraging Walk

Co-hosted with Nature’s Path Natural Ways and RSPB

This Sunday, the 3rd of September 2023, we had a great foraging walk with Amanda from Nature’s Path Natural Ways and Milly from BSPB Forsinard.

We were super lucky to have fantastic weather, lots of sunshine and a refreshing breeze bringing to life foliage on trees and grasses in meadows.

It felt like we could have that walk forever, as it seemed like our wonderful Amanda could keep talking about every plant we were coming across - such a treasure of knowledge, and we only scratched on the surface!

She told us what plants are delicious to eat in salads, what plants make lovely teas, what superfoods we are walking past every single day. We even had a munch on freshly foraged delicious leaves and berries for a snack on the way.

We also found out what plants can work as first aid toolkit and possess valuable medicinal properties everyone can benefit from on a daily basis.

We discussed what other reasons for foraging can be - from sourcing our fuel to decorating our homes.

We had plenty of opportunities to exercise in identifying species, be it mushrooms, flowers, insects or birds, thanking to great expertise of our co-hosts Milly and Amanda and books that they brought along.

At some point on our walk it was great to stop and embrace all beauty and diversity of the nature that was surrounding us. Our RSPB expert Milly encouraged us to take a break to meditate, focus on our senses and feelings. And we suddenly were able to tune out so many separate noises, smells, objects that we weren’t aware of before, which was a great practice, very relaxing and recreational.

We completed our splendid walk with no less excellent tea party. Amanda cooked delicious cakes from foraged ingredients and we made our tea from plants that we collected during our walk - and those teas tasted so unexpectedly good!

By the way, we foraged plenty of herbs to make everybody a cuppa at our Food Contest on the 24th of September, so don’t miss your chance to try our house tea!
