Eye Candy

Even though the sign says “Caithness Corner“, goods of all sorts made by local crafters occupy a good half of this fabulous shop!
Diane Hammerton, the owner of this charming gallery shop says: “Eye Candy is open for everybody, even if they just come in to browse, or for a chat, because that’s what I do best!”
“I feel like having local crafters in the shop does attract customers to pop in and look around and perhaps eventually buy something.
It certainly is a big kick for traders. Having an opportunity to sell in the shop highlights what they do, the time they spend and the craft they make.
We stick to sales in the shop and don’t go online” - Diane says.
Just like us at the Trust, Diane misses the days when going for a walk along high street was huge thing. That’s when everybody had a chance to mix, to socialize, and experience of looking at the local shops was the highlight of the week. People used to know what was available at local supply and were shaping their shopping plans accordingly.
This campaign is exactly about this - returning the spirit of community and busy vibe to our streets as it used to be.
Eye Candy is very popular with the tourists and they do appreciate impressive display at this store.
Diane hopes her customers realize that by buying locally made goods, they support local crafters, and if they don’t, there will be no great shops like this anymore.
