Cost of Living Crises Support

With huge thanks to the TNL Community Fund we have secured funding to assist our community in the cost of living crises through the provision of either food or energy vouchers and supply of low cost cooking equipment or warm equipment. The funding is not confined to families, anyone can apply from individuals to couples but it is on a per household basis.

The support is available on a first come, first issued basis but through this funding we aim to support over 300 households throughout the Thurso and North West Caithness area. The funding is not just confined to Thurso, we welcome applications from those living outwith the town but you must be resident in the Thurso and North West Caithness Highland Council Ward. You can check this by visiting the website Boundaries.Scot and typing in your postcode.

We have the following support available:

  • Energy Vouchers of £50 per household if using a pre-payment meter

  • OR Food Voucher of £50 per household if you have a billed meter

  • We also have a small amount of funding to purchase warm equipment. This can be anything from low energy cost cooking equipment to keep your bills lower like an Air-Fryer or Slow Cooker or might be an electric blanket or warm bedding. We are open to the support that we offer with equipment funding please fill out the form with your request and we will have a chat about what is most appropriate to purchase for you.

To apply for support click on the button below to complete your application. We aim to deal with all applications quickly but please appreciate that many of our staff work part time so it won’t be instantly. If you are in need of emergency support please contact us on 01847 867310.

The funding is for vouchers and provision of equipment is there for predominantly low income households who are in receipt of benefits but please do not feel that you are excluded if you are struggling, all circumstances are different and you can complete the form outlining your circumstances to still be considered for support.

In addition to this funding we as always are providing support via our Sharing Shed which you can access 7 days per week from around 10am - 3pm at the side of Thurso Youth Club. We have regular collections of surplus food for redistribution. Please help yourself.

We can also connect you to other organisations throughout Caithness for support including making a referral for you to Caithness Food Bank and also ensuring that you are getting all of the money you are entitled to by arranging a chat for you with Caithness Citizen’s Advice Bureau.
