Continuing Cost of Living Support
Poverty is not new in Highland, whether food poverty or fuel poverty. Poverty is poverty. More and more, people who we work with in our communities are struggling and many will not ask for help.
Community Support
In Highland we are also blessed with a thriving community sector with many organisations and groups pulling together to contribute towards a good quality of life across the region.
Our role in the community, whether community development worker, support worker, or volunteer is to identify and assist those who are struggling and connect them to the right places for support.
We know those conversations can be difficult. Knowing about energy and support systems is a large undertaking when the community sector is already at capacity. That’s where the Highland Community Support project comes in.
Highland Community Support - training and resources
In an effort to improve long-term support with the cost of living crises, Thurso Community Development Trust teamed up with Highlands and Islands Climate Hub and secured funding from SSE Renewables. Together we are working to develop resources and training for community groups through the Highland Community Support project to:
Provide insight into the cost of living crises, energy efficiencies and support available
Enable us to identify people who are struggling
Feel confident having conversations about support available

Interested?
Over the next 5 months, we will continue to deliver online training sessions for volunteers and workers in the community sector. All sessions will be delivered online via Teams.
Sessions that were delivered in November and December were well received, with positive feedback from participants and productive feedback will now be actioned upon.
